The Build Burn Recover Better Study runs over 4 weeks to run four weekly MOVE, EAT, SLEEP experiments – to help you build the Knowledge Skills and Practices to Build Burn Recover Better, Forever – Really.
Explore how to be kinder, smarter, faster, nicer, sexier, less stressed, more relaxed – without trying to be any of those things – for free.
No diet, no calorie counting, no gym equipment required. Just YOU and your keen-ness to explore how to feel better, forever.

INTERESTED? Here’s how to connect with this study:
- Sign up to register for the study (click here) by Tuesday 14th April, 4pm UK time.
- The OPEN Information Session will be held online via Microsoft Teams on Wednesday 15th April at 13:00 UK time to take your questions about the study. The session will be recorded for those who cannot make it. (insert teams invitation link)
- The study itself will start on Monday 20th April – we’ll send you the link to download the mobile app (your lab in a pocket) after the information meeting, once you’re registered.
Come be your own scientist and test out foundational health heuristics to thrive whether you’re at home, on the road, at work, under stress, on a vacation, at a restaurant, in a hotel or just about anywhere.
We’ll help you test out for yourself in weekly experiments how to use your own senses for how science-backed health practices for Move Eat Sleep actually work and feel for you.

We call these Move Eat Sleep try-outs “experiments”
Our XB app is your Lab and Log Book all in one.
Each week, with our XB app (link provided to participants – sign up is here), you can try out a new experiment about move, eat, and sleep to test out the fundamentals of building, burning and recovering better work for you.
Where do you want to perform and feel better? Study? Work? Being more patient? Less stressed? You’ll be able to see how exploring Move, Eat, Sleep affects these.
With the mobile app, you also chart what you did that day with the experiment, as well as how you feel as you run your experiments. THAT’S IT.
All data is good data – learning HOW THESE TECHNIQUES WORK FOR YOU will give you a health foundation to last a lifetime.
Learn Together, too. Each week, we also host get togethers on Teams to (i) prep for the coming week’s experiment (ii) reflect on your experiences over the past week (iii) share any questions about how it is going – we learn together.
What We’ll Explore
For EAT BURN BETTER we’ll test out
- Fullness – what is satiety and how use it?
- Green & Red – the power of colour in feeling fantastic with food
- The power of SMELL to support feeling full better, longer
- The Fast Fast – for repair/recover
- note: While this approach is not at all about weight loss (fat burning), last two summers participants reported that fat burning)was an effortless side effect. How bout that.

For MOVE BUILD BETTER – we’ll look at

- Getting to know your joints – to move and feel better
- Explore the Floor – fundamental moves for any time/any where movement/strength/balance work for your WHOLE body
- Walking Out – exploring breathing to support build/burn/recover better
- Movement snacks – how to use Time and Space to feel great throughout the day
- Shift points – how to use the shift from easy to more challenging to build resilience
- hanging Around- How to build whole body strength without moving a muscle
For SLEEP recover Better – we’ll explore
- Using Daylight for Sleep
- Using Deliberate Darkness for brain cleaning – literally and physically
- Using Sleep timing for recover/repair and memory/learning – and improved social attractiveness
- Using all the above to kill the alarm for good, forever (and why that’s important)

A wee overview of being Inside the Study
Your time – we’re asking you to use our XB app as an easy way to offer your reflections about your experience – anonymized – of what works for you. In other words, you are being co-scientists with us.
We’ll send you the link for the app and the associated Teams site where we have our weekly meetups. We do ask that participants fill in brief daily logs to help us understand how the practices in the weekly experiments work for you. The app will take folks through the process of recording – so it’s fast and easy.
What you get – what you’ll get from this study are new knowledge, skills and practices to help you feel, perform and be better in your daily life. These are foundational skills that will last a life time.
Participants tell us that the weekly meetings are great as well for asking questions about health practices; learning how others solve challenges and being able to offer their own insights about their practices, too.
In the years we’ve been running these studies, folks tell us they’re still practicing the heuristics they tried out and found work for them from these experiments. Fantastic!
What we get – this study is part of the research work in the Wellthlab.ac.uk – part of the University of Southampton. Our mission in the Wellthlab research group is to help #makeNormalBetter for all at scale, and to learn how we can design better technologies to help support that process. Your participation helps us make these tools more effective, thank you in advance.
Small Print – here is the Participant Information Sheet and Privacy Policy that goes into the detail about how we collect any data, process it, and general questions about your participation.
Interested? Please sign up here and we will email you the link to download our XB mobile app and an invitation to join our Teams group closer to the study start time.
Please note: sign up here does not obligate you to ANYTHING – it just let’s us to let you know when we’re starting!
Thank you.
